Some early lotteries were unsuccessful. In the 19th century, a number of lottery scams were discovered, leading to a national prohibition against lotteries in many states.<\/p>\n
Generally, the odds of winning the top prize in any lottery are quite low, even in comparison to other forms of gambling.
