There are many different types of poker, and each has its own rules. However, there are some basic principles that all forms of the game have in common. The aim of the game is to have a winning hand at the end of the round.<\/p>\n<p>The game may be played with any number of players, although the ideal number is 6. Players make a single bet per deal and can raise and re-raise. The object is to win the pot, which is the total of all bets made during one deal. This can be done by having the best poker hand or by making a bet that no other player calls.<\/p>\n<p>A winning poker hand can be a pair, straight, flush, or high card. A high card wins ties between two pairs. A straight is a sequence of cards in order (such as 5-6-7-8-9). A flush is five of the same suit. A royal flush is the highest possible hand.<\/p>\n<p>A good poker player will often fast-play a strong hand, which means betting frequently to build the pot. This will encourage others to fold, and it also helps to keep the pot as large as possible.
